Opal M. McCray, 93, passed away at 2:30p.m., Wednesday, December 3, 2008 at Pleasant Meadows Christian Village in Chrisman IL. She was born March 31, 1915 in the State of Washington to Allie (Waddell) and Daniel B. McCray. Survivors include one sister, Lena G. (Ralph) Wengler, a cousin, Garnett Waddell of Naperville and nieces, Jean (John) Hayward and Linda (David) Zavada, and several great nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her sisters, Ruth (Verne) Grant and Mary (Verne) Summers, and nephews, Donald (Marilyn) Summers and James (Joyce) Wengler. Opal graduated from Donovan, IL High School in 1933. During the great depression, she moved to Chicago where she worked several jobs while continuing her education. After finishing her studies in New York City, she returned to Chicago as a senior financial record keeper for the Talcott Corporation a position that she held for over 40 years. Opie was a strong and intelligent woman who had a deep and loving commitment to her family. With a sharp sense of humor and a witty style, she brought happiness and laughter to all those who knew her. She will be dearly missed. A celebration of life for Opal M. McCray will be held at 11:00a.m, Saturday, December 6, 2008 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion St., with Pastor James Walker officiating. Burial will be in Stearns Cemetery, Fithian. Visitation will be held one hour (10-11:00a.m.) prior the service on Saturday. E-mail condolences may be sent to the family at www.sunsetfuneralhome.com
