Opal Blacketer

Opal O. Blacketer, 82, of Danville, IL passed away February 24, 2007 at Provena USMC Logan Campus in Danville. She was born July 15, 1924 in Lancaster, IL daughter of Lester and Ida E. Stewart Putnam. She married Albert Blacketer on October 17, 1947 in Danville. He preceded her in 2000. Survivors include Daughters: Joanna (Jeff) Van Ee & Sue (Roy) Huxhold both of Danville, Four grandchildren: Jenna & Julie Van Ee, Tammy Duhamel, and Conrad Huxhold. Two great grandchildren: Tia & Desi. Sister: Mary (James) Watson of Long Beach, CA, Sister-in-law Barbara Ann Putnam of N. Hollywood, CA; Several nieces and nephews and many friends and family in Lancaster, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents and three siblings: Robert, infant Roy Glen and Juanita Putnam. Opal was a 1942 graduate of Danville High School and graduate of Danville Institute of Business. She worked for Grab It Here/Dolly Madison Store as a book keeper for many years and was office manager at WDAN/D102 until retiring in 1985. She was a member of the Second Church of Christ, and was an avid DACC & DHS sports fan. She enjoyed cooking, was a wonderful seamstress but her life center around her family and her church. A Celebration of Opals life will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday February 28, 2007 at Second Church of Christ in Danville with Drew Mentzer officiating. Visitation will be held from 4-8 pm Tuesday evening at Sunsets Community & Life Tribute Center (formerly Lakeside-Barrick Funeral Home) 3550 N. Vermilion Street in Danville; also one hour prior to the service at the church. She will be laid to rest with her husband at Danville National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please send memorials to Second Church of Christ.
