Omer Wilkins Sr

Omer Wilkins Sr, 90, of Rantoul, IL passed away surrounded by family on the morning of Wednesday, October 23, 2024 at his home.

He was born July 18, 1934 in Trimble, TN, a son of Joe and Mattie Lou (Garrett) Wilkins.  He married Evanna Stray on August 19, 1955 in Alcorn County, MS.  She survives.

Also surviving are 3 children, Evangeline Foster of Rantoul; Tony (Melverta) Wilkins of Decatur, IL; Patricia Wilkins of Rantoul, 8 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 11 siblings, and 3 children, Gregory Wilkins, Duane Wilkins and Omer Wilkins Jr..

He served in the US Air Force for 26 years, retiring as a Master Sargeant.  He was superintendent of the fire protection course at Chanute Air Force Base.  After his retirement, he and his wife bought a home in Rantoul and raised their children there.

Funeral services will be held at 9:30 on Friday morning at Greater New Light Church, 1500 Sheppard Drive, Rantoul.  Rev. Otis Evans will officiate.  Burial will follow at Danville National Cemetery with military rites from Scott Air Force Base.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 on Thursday evening at Lux Memorial Chapel, 1551 East Grove, Rantoul.
