William Sakotnik Obituary

     William C. “Uncle Billy” Sakotnik, 91, of Danville passed away at 3:24pm, Thursday, April 1, 2021, at Colonial Manor Therapy, Danville.  He was born on July 17, 1929, in Grape Creek, IL, the son of William W. and Josephine G. {Parzatka} Sakotnik, both deceased. 
     Bill is survived by his sister, Josephine ‘Jo Ann’ Thompson of Danville; his nieces, Deborah (Tim) Strako of SeaTac, Washington & Christina (Robb) Dietzen of Danville; his great nieces & nephew, Amanda (Dylan McKenzie) Widell, Matthew Strako, Joslyn Dietzen, & Aleksas Dietzen; his great-great nieces & nephew, Abigail Widell, Esther Strako, & Grady Widell.  He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, John Thompson. 
     Bill was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He graduated from McMillan Grade School and Westville High School in 1947.  He was a proud Veteran of the US Army serving during the Korean Conflict and was a life-long member of the American Legion Post #51 in Westville.  Bill worked at Hegeler Zinc Co., General Motors, Allith Prouty and retired from Berkly Davis. He served as Trustee and past President on the Westville-Belgium Sanitary District. Bill was proud to be a 21 gallon plus blood donor. He was a UAW 579 Union member, Democratic election judge, and delivered CRIS Meals on Wheels.  He did leather tooling and woodworking.  Bill enjoyed gardening, canning and making waffle cookies.  He was known for knitting winter stocking caps. Bill enjoyed hunting in his younger days and fishing with his fishing buddies at Kickapoo. He was a Cubs fan and avid word searcher.  Billy looked forward to taking rides to Kickapoo and Forest Glen with Jo Ann.  Uncle Billy loved his family dearly and enjoyed sharing memories and stories.  He will be greatly missed. 
     The family would like to thank the OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center staff of 4 West and 4 East, as well as the staff at Colonial Manor/Colonial Manor Therapy. A special thank you to Father Deus for administering to his prayerful needs while in the hospital. 
      A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, April 10, 2021, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 231 N. State St, Westville, with Fr. Timothy Sauppé officiating.  Rosary will be at 9:30 am with visitation held from 10 -11 am at St. Mary’s.  He will be laid to rest in Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery, Westville with military rites conducted by American Legion Post #51.  His family has entrusted his arrangements to Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Westville, Illinois, 414 S State St. Westville, Illinois 61883.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given in his name to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or Forest Glen Preserve.  COVID restrictions will be followed with wearing of face masks and safe social distancing.
