Thelma Barnes Obituary

Thelma J. Barnes, 89, of Danville passed away on Wednesday, May 26, 2021. She was born in Fairmount, IL on July 28, 1931, the daughter of Harry and Jennie Anderson.

Thelma is survived by her children, Donald Barnes, Kathie Walker, Dena (Jess) Jenkins; grandchildren, Tracey Snider, Kelli (Rob) Taylor, Jaymes Davis, Nicci (Corey) Laughner, Jess (Ashley) Jenkins, Bryan Jenkins, six great-grandchildren, brothers, Harry Anderson, Hugh Anderson and sister, Regina Brown and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Carla Doggett; brothers Howard Anderson and Harold Anderson; sisters, Betty Pate and Lois Hoskins and a great-granddaughter.

Thelma worked at General Electric. She later graduated the L.P.N. program at Danville Jr. College and worked at St. Elizabeth Hospital and the V.A. Medical Center in Danville, Illinois. She worked hard to take care of her family.She was very proud of her family and they are proud of her.She will be greatly missed.

Thelma loved to dance in her younger days. She was an exceptional seamstress, making many of her children’s clothes and her own nursing uniforms.

Per Thelma’s wishes she will be cremated with a burial at Greenwood Cemetery in Danville. Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, Illinois 61834 is assisting the family with arrangements.

Memorial donations may be made in Thelma’s name to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
