Ruth E. Mumford

Ruth E. Mumford, 87, passed away on Thursday, December 2, 2021, at Accolade Healthcare of Danville. She was born on March 8th, 1934, to Raymond & Mae Jennings of Homer, IL.

Ruth graduated from Oakwood High School, in 1952, and was married to Edward Charles Mumford that same year. They resided in Tilton, IL for all their lives, and married to, until Edward’s passing in 2018. They were married for 66 years.

Ruth was preceded in death by both of her parents; brothers, Dale Jennings and Jerry Jennings; grandson, Timothy Jones; husband, Edward Mumford; nephew, Patrick Martin; and sister-in-law, Eileen Martin.

She is survived by her son, Kenneth Mumford and his wife, Cathy; grandchildren; Buffey Kunkle, Christopher Cary, and Melissa Cary; great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren; brother-in-law, George Martin; and four nieces, Lyndall Snowden, Cheryl Sprague, Valerie Spiller, and Jennifer Martin.

Ruth worked for Illinois Bell Telephone Company for several years, and later retired from R&S Printing Co. She and Edward loved to travel and enjoyed many excursions with best friends and family, Tera and Glenn Buskirk and George and Eileen Martin.

Ruth attended The United Church of Tilton, for many years, and loved singing in the choir. She loved to read, and was especially fond of Southwestern History, doing crafts, gardening, and bird watching.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:45 a.m. on Thursday, December 16, 2021 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, Illinois 61834. Officiating will be Pastor Christopher Cary. Burial will be in Danville National Cemetery. Visitation will be held just prior to the service from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the funeral home.
