Russell O. Potter, 83, of Bismarck, IL passed way at his home with his wife and family by his side on March 4, 2024 at 6:10 PM.
Russell was born on December 16, 1940 to Edwin and Lousie (Johnson) Potter in Danville, IL. He married Mary Limp on March 4, 1961 in Danville, IL and she survives.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Potter of Bismarck, IL, his children, Jane (Brian) Cress, Julie Sheets and James Potter all of Bismarck, IL, four grandchildren, Matthew Cress, Joselyn (Brandon) Curry-Varner, Ashley Sheets and Kelsey Sheets, one great granddaughter, RaeLynn Curry-Varner, as well as two sisters and great friend, Terry Light.
Russell is preceded in death by his parents.
Russell was a Railroader for over 30 years before retiring from CSX Railroad. He was a past member of the Bismarck Fire Department and the Bismarck Lions Club.
Russell was instrumental in the planning and the construction of the beautiful Bismarck Lions Club Park.
Russell’s passion was family, Model T cars and rebuilding carburetors for Model T’s. He organized the Bismarck Tunklin’ T’s Model T Club and as his health failed, he went to the shop in his blue Dickies.
The family has requested that those attending the funeral, who own a Model T, drive them to services in Russell’s memory.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, March 11, 2024 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, IL. James Russell will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 2:00-4:00 PM on Sunday, March 10, 2024 at the funeral home.
