Rose Martin Obituary

     Rose (Vallangeon) Martin, 96, of Covington, Indiana, passed away at 8:00 a.m. Friday, January 6, 2023, at OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center in Danville, IL. She was born September 8, 1926, in Danville, IL the daughter of the late Andre and Zena (Beauvois) Vallangeon. Rose married Robert L. Martin on October 16, 1948, in Westville, IL. They were united in marriage for 71 years, until his passing on April 26, 2020. 
     She leaves behind her loving family of five children; Robert Martin of Shelburn, IN, Susan (Michael) Wiesemann of Covington, IN, Wayne (Annie) Martin of Morgantown, IN, Cindy (Bryan) Atwood of Wapella, IL, and Brenda (Bob) Mitchell of Chrisman, IL along with eleven grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren.
     Rose worked at the telephone company in her early years and later worked at the V.A. Hospital in Danville, IL. She was active in the Perrysville, IN American Legion Women’s Auxiliary and a member of the Christian Union Church. She and Bob spent many wonderful winters in Florida, enjoying friends and the warmer weather. In her leisure time, Rose liked to camp with family, play euchre and other games, and work jigsaw puzzles. She especially enjoyed crocheting afghans for family and friends, now treasured keepsakes for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
     Celebrating special occasions and holidays with family has always been a long-standing tradition in the Martin family. Rose was always eager for the events and loved spending time with her family. She will be deeply missed by her family and especially her children, who are so grateful and proud to have called her “Mother.” 
     A celebration of Rose’s life will be held at 2:00pm (EST), Friday, January 13, 2023, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Covington, Indiana 420 3rd St. Covington, Indiana 47932 with Pastor Bob Fairchild officiating.  Visitation will be held 12:00pm (noon) to 2:00pm on Friday prior to her service at the funeral home.  She will be laid to rest in Lower Mound Cemetery, Covington, IN.  Memorial donations may be made to the Community Foundation for Lower Mound Cemetery at P.O.
