Marilyn Lyman Obituary

Marilyn J. Lyman, 89, formerly of Danville, IL passed away at her daughter’s home on March 16, 2024 at 8:30 PM.

Marilyn was born on November 30, 1934 the daughter of Howard and Irene (Kinney) Burns in Battle Creek, Iowa. She married Sheldon Lyman on June 8, 1954 and he preceded her in death on October 9, 1991.

Survivors include her daughter, Renee (Stuart) Steinman of Palatine, IL, her son, Kevin (Lisa) Lyman of Brown Deer, WI, and her five grandchildren, Katrina Steinman, Karissa Lyman, Brandon Steinman, Emily Lyman and Morgan Steinman.

Marilyn is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Sheldon Lyman, and two brothers, Gary and Michael Burns.

Marilyn was a member of St James United Methodist Church where she and her husband, Sheldon, served as Sunday School Teachers for many years.  Marilyn also volunteered in the church office for over 25 years.  In her free time she enjoyed taking care of her flowers, plants and vegetable garden, and took great pride in her well-manicured lawn. Marilyn and Sheldon loved to travel, especially with friends and neighbors, traveling across the United States as well as abroad.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, April 1, 2024 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, IL 61834. Sara Isbell and Paul Unger will co-officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 9-11:00 AM on Monday, April 1, 2024 at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made in Marilyn’s memory to the Lyman Scholarship Fund at St. James United Methodist Church in Danville or to the charity of your choice.
