After graduating Danville High School Katie taught elementary school during World War II. She then spent the rest of her career working for the Credit Bureau in Downtown Danville. Katie was a member of Farmers Chapel United Methodist Church and tirelessly and eagerly made the most of every day, always dedicating herself to her family, friends and her community. She proudly served on the Board of Directors for the Christian Home for Youth, as a Girl Scout Leader, and was dedicated to using her creativity and artistic talents at church to serve as a Sunday School Leader, on numerous committees, organizing church fellowships and singing in the choir. Katie was also an active gardener and enjoyed baking for her friends and family. During retirement she enjoyed reading to children in local elementary schools and caring for and entertaining her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Her uplifting spirit and warm heart were felt by all who met her. She also kept all those close to her on their toes by frequently planning kind-hearted and clever practical jokes.
