John Jones Obituary

Danville – John Francis “Big John” Jones Jr., 85, passed away on Monday, March 16, 2020 at OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center in Danville, IL.  He was born on February 24, 1935 in Danville, IL.  John married Pauline Frances Hunt on April 18, 1955 in Danville, IL. 

John is survived by his wife; children Debra Sue Ruper and Rodney (Amy) Jones; grandchildren Jeremy, Eric, Michelle, Melissa, Kevin, and Sarah; great-grandchildren McKenzie, Anderson, Lexington, Kaleigha, Isiah, Harrison, and Remington; and brother Donald L. Jones.  He was preceded in death by his parents and son-in-law Roger “Mike” Ruper. 

John enjoyed fishing, hunting, NASCAR, dirt track racing, gardening, Tootsie Rolls, and watching westerns and the History Channel.  He vacationed in Florida for 20 years with Pauline.

Open visitation hours for the public will be held from 8am-12pm on Thursday, March 19, 2020 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, Illinois 61834.  A private celebration of life service will follow.  Rodney Jones will officiate.  Burial will take place at Greenwood Cemetery.  Please join John’s family in sharing memories, photos, and videos on his tribute wall at sunsetfuneralhome.com.
