Joe Witmer Obituary

Joe G. Witmer, 87, of Oakwood went to be with the Lord on August 7, 2020. He was born in Waynesboro, PA on January 10, 1933 the son of John and Margaret Witmer. Joe married Carolyn Anderson and later married Mary Lou Park.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou; daughter, Staci (Jeff) Garrison; grandchildren, Hannah and Jake Garrison; sisters, Pat Steinberger, Ginger Witmer, Sonya (Jim) Weaver and brother, John (Norma) Witmer.

Joe is preceded in death by his parents, John and Margaret Witmer; sister, Irene Hauley; brothers, Jack, Adin, Barry and half-brother, Pharice.

Joe spent 21 years in the Military including 8 years in the Army Airborne, serving in the 82 Airborne Division, 187th Combat Reg., and 101 Airborne Division, and 14 years in the Air Force.

He loved to hunt and fish with his good friends Henry Sansone, Jim Allen and Jerry Voyles. Joe was a wonderful father and grandfather and will be deeply missed.

A Celebration of Joe’s life will take place at 12pm on Thursday August 13, 2020 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Oakwood, Illinois 105 East S. Main St. Oakwood, Illinois 61858 with Patti Wise officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10am to 12pm at the Funeral Home. Burial will take place at Stearns Cemetery in Fithian, IL with Military Honor by American Legion Post 210.
