Gerald Nixon

Gerald Nixon, 80, passed away on October 31, 2019 at Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Danville.

He was born on November 8, 1938 to George and Jessie (Morris) Nixon in White County, IN. 

Gerald married Karan Root who preceded him in death. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, spouse, siblings; Carolyn, Phyllis, Janie, Howard, Donnie, Jim, Chuck and Kenny.

Gerald is survived by his children, Gerald W (Pam) Nixon of Rankin, IL, Jim Nixon of Fairhope, AL, Terry (Bunny) Nixon of Oakwood, IL, Teresa (Rick) Johnson of Westville, IL; brothers, Harold (Lavonne) Nixon of Danville, IL; sister, Sharon (Richard) Nicholls of Mt. Zion, IL; grandchildren Cory, Dustin, Brittney, Shane, Anthony, Kayla, Josh, Cole, Aaron and Austin; 5 great-grandchildren and his companion of 15 years, Deborah Wilson. 

He retired from GM as a millwright in 1992 after 35 years.  He enjoyed bowling, gambling, the St. Louis Cardinals, watching TV, throwing horseshoes and mostly his dog, “Scotty”.   Gerald was a member of the Danville Moose Lodge and served as Governor from 2011-2012. 

A celebration of Gerald’s life will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, November 4, 2019 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, Illinois 61834. Visitation will be from 1-2 PM Monday prior to the service.
