Gene Butcher Obituary

Gene E. Butcher, 84, of Bourbonnais, IL passed away on Thursday, May 5, 2022. He was born in Danville, IL on April 16, 1938, the son of Daniel and Clarice Butcher.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Idamae Butcher; children, Jeannie (Thomas) Watson, David (Jolene) Qualls, Lynda Hillard, Jeff (Lynn) Nogoda; sister-in-law, Sue Butcher; dear family friend, Tom Church, 11 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren.

Gene is preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Clarice, son, Billy Butcher and daughters, Connie Duckworth, and Pam Creamer.

Gene was a veteran of the United States Army and spent 27 years in the service.  He was stationed in Germany during the Cold War and rose to the rank of 1st Sargant. He retired in April of 1998.

He graduated from Danville High School in 1957. In addition to his time in the service Gene also worked and retired from General Motors after 26 years. After retirement Gene drove a bus for Westville School District for 9 years. He was also a member of Danville First Church of the Nazarene where he drove the Church van for 30 years and involved in various church activities. Gene enjoyed bowling, exercising, listening to music, and watching sports, especially the Chicago Bears.

A visitation will be held Monday, May 9, 2022, from 4pm until 6pm at Danville First Church of the Nazarene 2212 N. Vermilion St. Danville, IL. A funeral service celebrating Gene’s life will be held at 10am on Tuesday, May 10, 2022, at Danville First Church of the Nazarene. Following the service Gene will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Park with Military Rites accorded by American Legion Post 210. Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, Illinois 61834 is assisting the family with arrangements.
