Dorothea Marie (Minton) McKelvey, 80, of Danville passed away on Saturday, May 29, 2021.She was born in Leitchfield, Kentucky on August 2, 1940.
Dorothea is survived by her children, Letty “Buttons” (Dennis) Reynolds of McMary, TN, Tom (Joyce) Duesterhoft of Danville; stepson, Wade McKelvey; grandchildren, Lacey Duesterhoft, Troy Duesterhoft, Meagan Sample, Zachgary (Stacey) Sample, Hannah Reynolds, Emili Key, Jessi Key, Carl Key; great grandchildren, Hannah Trimble, Caleb Trimble, Legend Johnson, Kaydance Johnson, Keilan Epperson, Legacy Johnson and Ari Sample.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Letty and Myrtle Minton; daughter, Theresa Ann Duesterhoft; son-in-law, Bill Key; grandson, Troy Thomas Duesterhoft; brothers, Tom, Ruben, Jerry, Charles “Charlie” and sisters, Arizona “Zoni”, Jane, and Irene “Boots”.
Dorothea worked in the restaurant industry as a waitress for most of her life. Most people knew her as Dorothea but those closest to her called her Dot. She was known as the feisty redhead who loved John Wayne, singing, and westerns. She was an avid reader and a huge Kentucky fan. Dorothea also enjoyed watching the Kentucky Derby and fishing with her grandchildren and sister Boots. Dorothea adored her family and loved spending time with them.
A celebration of Dorothea’s life will be held at 2pm on Saturday, June 5, 2021, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, Illinois 61834. Visitation will be held prior from 1pm to 2pm at the funeral home. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Danville.
