Donald Van Pelt Obituary

Danville – Donald L. Van Pelt, 92, of Danville, IL passed away at 3:35 PM at Accolade in Danville, IL on June 4, 2021.

Donald was born on May 29, 1929 the son of Ora and Dorothy (Taylor) Van Pelt in Covington, IN. He married Juanita June Smith on November 18, 1950 in Covington, IN and she preceded him death on December 2, 2014.

Survivors include his daughters, Donna (Steve) Stevens of Danville, IL and Kathy (Craig) Klinefelter of Silvis, IL, five grandchildren, Stephanie (Kory) Nestler of Auburn, IL, Amanda (Scott) Musgrave of Tuscola, IL, Aaron (Stacie) Stevens of Catlin, IL, Lindsay (Wesley) Kipp of Wimberly, TX and Eric (Rachel) Klinefelter of Grand Rapids, MI, as well as seven great grandchildren, Taylor, Colton and Connor Musgrave, Joshua Nestler, Kinley and Kambrie Stevens and Delaney Bee Kipp.

Donald is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Juanita June Van Pelt, one brother, James Taylor Van Pelt and one sister, Marjorie Glover.

Donald was a member of Benson Chapel Church, the Perrysville American Legion Post and the Korean War Veterans Association. He was a graduate of Covington High School and Utterback-Brown Business College.  Donald served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1951-1953, was the Vice President of Finance at Lakeview Hospital in Danville, IL, Manager of the Hospital Credit Union in Danville, IL and later the Manager of the Commercial News Credit Union in Danville, IL. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed spending his free time playing the organ, collection coins, gardening, and being with his children and grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at 2:00 PM Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center 3940 N Vermilion St., Danville, Illinois 61834. Raymie Gordon will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park with Military Rites accorded by American Legion Post 210. Visitation will be held from 1:00 – 2:00 PM on Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at the funeral home.

It is kindly requested that those in attendance of the visitation or services wear a mask and practice social distancing.
