Donald Gene Sawyer

     Donald Gene Sawyer, 90, of Catlin, passed away at 7:11am, Sunday, July 25, 2021, at Pleasant Meadows Senior Living, Chrisman, IL.  He was born on March 1, 1931, in Sidell, Illinois, the son of Willis and Lulu {Tatman} Sawyer.  He was united in marriage to Roberta Charlene Howe on April 20, 1952, until her passing on May 11, 2018.
     He is survived by his daughter, Debra (Dale) Dowers of San Clemente, CA; his grandchildren, Lindsay Wilson, Rachel Wright, & Heather Hanson; his great grandchildren, Zoe Wilson, Charlie Hanson, & Parker Hanson; and his brother, Clifford (Judy) Sawyer of Georgetown.  He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Charlene; his son, Kevin Sawyer; his brother, Raymond Sawyer; and his sister, Louise Kilion.
     Donald was a proud Veteran of the US Navy.  He worked at Hyster for many years until retirement and was a member of the Fairview United Methodist Church.  He was known to enjoy a hearty breakfast as well as watch Westerns on TV.  He loved his family and especially cherished his grandchildren. Donald constantly missed his wife who had passed before him right up until the end.
     A celebration of Donald’s life will be held at 2:00pm, Saturday, July 31, 2021, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Georgetown, Illinois 200 E. West St. Georgetown, Illinois 61846 with Pastor Matt Filicsky officiating.  Visitation will be 1:00pm to 2:00pm on Saturday prior to his service at the funeral home.  He will be laid to rest next to wife at Sunset Memorial Park, Danville, IL.  Memorial donations may be given in his name to Georgetown Public Library.  Please join his family in sharing memories through his Tribute Wall at www.sunsetfuneralhome.com.
