Dixie Alkire Obituary

Dixie Lee Alkire, 85, of Covington, passed away on April 24, 2024, at IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis with family by her side.  Dixie was born on July 18, 1938, in Attica, IN, the daughter of Herbert and Geneva (East) Wilson.  She married Gene on April 5, 1959, who predeceased her on September 1, 2023.

Surviving are her children: Christy Watkins, Steven (Ginger) Alkire, Gail McLain and Scott Alkire, her grandchildren; Brandi Bragg, Shaun and Brent Stonebraker, Chealsie Beedle, Skylar Alkire, Trace and Trenton McLain and Mitchell Beck Jr., 10 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild on the way.  Dixie was preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers Jerry, Tim and Jim Wilson, sister Dianna Molden, and daughter in law Meg Alkire.

Our Mom, Dixie, had to do most of the parenting on her own as Dad was working several jobs to provide for the family.  She loved to sew and made many of our clothes.  She loved playing card games and dominoes.  She was also very artistic and made crafts and cross-stitched for many years, including participating in many craft fairs with her daughter, Christy.  She was still making some items as gifts until her health no longer allowed her to do so. Her other hobbies in her younger years included gardening, ceramics, and bowling.  She was an avid reader and passed on this hobby to her children and grandchildren.  She loved God with all of heart and her goal was to spread this love to her loved ones so they would join her in heaven one day. We all loved her deeply and will miss her so much.

Her wish was to be cremated. Her family will have a private graveside ceremony at a later date. Dixie’s family has entrusted Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Covington, Indiana 420 3rd street with her arrangements.
