Dennis Wayne Young, Sr.

Danville – Dennis Wayne Young, Sr., 69, of Danville passed away at 7:09 AM on May 20, 2020 at OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center in Danville, IL.

Dennis was born on June 17, 1950 the son of Milton and Mary E. (Bloomfield) Young. He married Ruth Ann Decker on June 10, 1972 in Danville and she survives.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Ann Young of Danville, IL, two sons, Dennis (Heidi) Young of Danville, Matthew Young of Danville, IL, one daughter, Kari Young of Danville, IL as well as one brother, Ronald (Anna) Young of Danville and two grandsons, Tyler and Payton Young both of Danville.

Dennis is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters Carolyn Weidig and Sharon Young as well as an infant brother, Donald Young, special nephews, Scott Weidig and Donald Young and close family friend David L. Phillips.

Dennis served in the United States Army from October of 1970 – February of 1972 and was a Vietnam War Veteran. Dennis was a member of American Legion Post 210 and drove a truck for Mel Price Trucking for many years. In his younger years he enjoyed coaching his boys’ Little League Baseball teams and enjoyed spending his free time gardening. Dennis was an avid sports fan and cheered on the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears and the Illini.

A private family Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, May 22, 2020 at 2:00 PM in Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, Illinois 61834. Miles Clark will officiate. Inurnment will be in Danville National Cemetery at a later date. A private family visitation will be held from 1:00 – 2:00 PM at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made in Dennis’ name to the American Legion Post 210 Honor guard.
