Danville- Betty Farr 101, of Danville, formerly of Los Angeles, CA passed peacefully at her residence on Wed. June 24, 2020 at 7:38 a.m. Betty was born Aug. 5, 1918 in Columbus, OH. She was the daughter of Alvin and Blanche LeMay Gill. She married James Farr who preceded her in death.
Betty is survived by 3 nephews James (Caroline) Darby of Danville, IL, Terry (Kathy) Gill of Carroll, OH, and David Darby of Carmel, IN. Also surviving is a niece Linda Sue (Daryl) Smith of Pleasantville, OH, as well as several great nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a brother Charles Gill, and her 2 sisters Florence Darby and Mary Brust.
Betty worked as a floor supervisor for TRW Electronics in Los Angeles, CA for many years until her retirement. Betty moved to Danville in the early 2000’s to be close to her sister Florence. To know Betty, was to know a strong willed and very determined individual. She worked hard throughout her life, and she always wanted to make sure she paid her own way. This tenacity helped her survive 3 heart attacks in one day at age 98 and carried her through until she nearly reached 102 years old. She was truly one of a kind and she gave her family many years of laughter and enjoyment.
Betty was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church where she was a faithful attendee until her health no longer permitted her to do so. Betty enjoyed shopping and getting her hair and nails done. She enjoyed going for walks and even though she never owned one, she was a lover of all dogs. Her family would like to give a special thank you to Jeanette Wheeler and her caregiving team, as well as Dr. Halloran and staff, as well as Carle Hospice, who all provided her with the greatest of care.
A Celebration of the Life of Betty Farr will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Monday July 6, 2020 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, IL, 3940 N. Vermilion St. in Danville, IL. As per Betty’s wishes she will be cremated and she will be laid to rest with her sister at Pleasant Cemetery in Mt. Sterling, OH.
