Norman A. Towell

Danville – Norman A. Towell, 89, of Danville, passed away at 6:06 AM on Sunday, December 7, 2025, at Pleasant Meadows Senior Living in Chrisman, IL. He was born July 5, 1936, in Danville to Robert and Virginia (Taylor) Towell. He married Carolyn Downing on May 21, 1958, in Missouri. She survives.

Also surviving are a daughter, Jodie Towell of Danville, a son, Randy (Janice) Towell of Michigan, and a granddaughter, Shannon.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

After High School, Norman served his country for nine years in the US Army Reserves where he was discharged as a Sergeant. He also worked for Bohn Aluminum/Heatcraft until his retirement after 38 years. Norman’s patriotism and love for the outdoors extended beyond his military service. He was a life-long Eagle Scout and Scoutmaster and loved to take his family out on the weekends to hunt for Native American artifacts around the area. He was also somewhat of an amateur meteorologist and enjoyed tracking weather patterns and filling everyone in on what to expect. Norman’s skill and experience enabled him to build almost anything, and he would always be working on some kind of project or fixing a car. He was also a proud member of the Anchor Masonic Blue Lodge #980 in Danville and the Scottish Rite.

A service to celebrate the life of Norman A. Towell will be held at 2 PM on Monday, December 15, 2025, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion St., Danville, IL, 61834. Services will be conducted by the Anchor Masonic Lodge #980. Entombment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park where military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #210. Visitation will be held from 1-2 PM prior to the service, also on Monday at Sunset in Danville. Memorials in his name may be made to the Dementia Society of America.
