Norman Reid Claypool

Norman Reid Claypool, age 88, of Bismarck, entered his heavenly home to be reunited with his beloved wife just before midnight on Wednesday, August 6th, 2023 at Carle Hospital, Urbana, Illinois.

Norman was born December 31, 1934, to Chester and Vida Claypool in Bismarck, IL. He married the love of his life, Norma Lou (DeNeal) on February 27, 1954. He was a devout husband, father, and grandfather.

Surviving are their two sons, Barry (Diane) Claypool and Byron (Vickie) Claypool, both of Bismarck; a special son-in-law, Brad Smith, of Danville; seven grandchildren: Nicole McFarland, Sam (Chelsey) Claypool, Joe Claypool, Kristin (Karl) Stupples, Tom Tull, Amanda Tull, Bethany (Zach) Wrensch; along with several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Norman was preceded in death by his parents; a brother David Claypool of Nashville TN; his wife; one daughter, Brenda Smith; one granddaughter, Brittany Smith and one great-grandson Kyler Tull.

Norman was dedicated to education. He graduated from Bismarck High School. He attended Lipscomb College before earning his teaching degree from Indiana State University alongside his mother. He then earned his Masters degree in Education from the University of Illinois.

Norman began teaching at Grange Hall School before it consolidated with Bismarck and ended his career as an assistant principal at Daniel School in Danville. Norman continued his hand in education by driving the school bus for Bismarck High School for many years as he owned and operated BIX furniture refinishing beside his home. He later kept himself busy in the Walmart paint department before finally deciding to take more time for his hobbies.

Norman enjoyed woodworking and was known to handcraft gifts for Norma. He had a keen eye when collecting antiques. He loved animals, gardening, and tending to his yard. He was an aficionado of Bismarck history and long-time member of the Northside Church of Christ.

Normans quiet wisdom will be dearly missed, but his alto voice, pipe, button-down shirts, and drivers caps will be remembered forever.

Per his wishes, A Celebration of Life Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 19, 2023 at Bethel Cemetery in Alvin, IL. Jim Russell will officiate.
