Newport, Ind. -- Norman Lee "Ick" Burroughs, 82, a life resident of Newport, passed away at 5 a.m. EST Wednesday (January 31, 2007) at his residence. He was born September 25, 1924 in Newport, the son of the late George D. and Audra Pearman Burroughs. He married Betty B. Carpenter on December 24, 1947 in Newport and she survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Ramona Lee (Paul) Trover of Dana, Ind., Rita Jo (Michael) Hall of Newport, Ind., Robin Ann (Tim) Utley of Highland, Cal.; ten grandchildren; Misty Hennis, Yancy Trover, Ammity Stambaugh, David Hall, Mollianne Bennett, William Burroughs Hall, Audra Hughes, Tony Hughes, Michael Utley and Joseph Utley; seven great grandchildren and one sister, Ena Baysinger of Newport. He was preceded in death by one brother, George Burroughs Jr. and one sister, Gloria Wilcoxson. Ick was a pattern maker at the G.M. Central Foundry in Tilton for 40 years, retiring in 1988. He served in the U.S. Navy during W.W. II. He attended Newport Schools. He served on the Newport Town Board the past 40 years and was a member of the Newport American Post #184. Ick enjoyed showing and working with his mules, donkeys and wagon at parades and he always wanted his lawn looking nice. Funeral services: 10:30 a.m. EST Saturday, February 3, 2007 at DeVerter Brothers Funeral Home, Cayuga, Ind.: Officiating: Rev. Garry Hendricks; Burial: Thomas Cemetery, Newport, Ind.; Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. EST Friday, February 2, 2007 and one hour prior to services Saturday at the funeral home.
