Norman J. Coppel

Norman J. Coppel, 76 of Danville, went home to be with the Lord, Thursday August 4, 2011 at Provena Covenant Hospital in Urbana. He was born on June 24, 1935 in Danville to James and Dorothy (Wycoff) Coppel. Both deceased. On Oct 12, 1957, Norman married the great love of his life, Donna Brooks. He is survived by his wife Donna, of 54 years, and three daughters; Donna (Ed) Bernes of N.C, Connie Coppel, and Dawn (Skip) Walls, both of Danville. Four grandchildren; Jessie Haussy, Jacob Walls, Joey Miguel, Keith Annicelli, five great-grandchildren; Odyssey, Jakoba, Nichole, Babie, and Justus Walls all survive him, as well as his two brothers; James Coppel of N.C; Bob (Nan) Coppel of Danville, his many friends and beloved pet; Katie dog. His parents, two infant sisters, a granddaughter, friends, and his pets preceded Norman in death. Norman worked hard all his life, providing for his family. He started working at the age of 14, at Shaw's Ice Cream, and later at Shaffer's gas station. He then worked bagging groceries at the Grab It' grocery store, retiring as manager after 18 years of service. He then was employed with Danville Township, and retiring after 22 years of service with the City of Danville. After retiring from the City of Danville, he delivered the Thrifty Nickel Local Paper for 9 years, until he had to leave due to health reason. Norman always took excellent care of his family, and pets, that he deeply loved. His battle with illness stole some of his memories, and would derail his train of thought, but he loved the Lord, and cherished the time with his family, and pets. Seeing old friends and sitting in his screen room eating fried chicken, riding his bicycle and later, his power chair, along with Donna, on nice summer days in Douglas Park, were one of his favorite things to do. He never lost his inner light, and was always a warm and loving to everyone he knew. He was a true blessing in our lives and he will truly be missed by all the lives that he touched. A Celebration of the Life of Norman Coppel will take place at Springhill Cemetery, starting at 2:30pm on August 10, 2011. Visitation for family and friends will be from 1-2pm on Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home, located at 3940 N. Vermilion Street in Danville. Please join Norman's family in sharing memories, photos, and video's of his life thru his Tribute Wall located at www.sunsetfuneralhome.com
