Normal L. Dowers, 82, of Kingman, Indiana, passed away on October 4, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on April 21, 1944, in Clinton, Indiana to Henry and Mildred (Hathaway) Dowers. Norman attended Cayuga High School.
On November 17, 1964, Norman married the love of his life, Janet (McMurtrey) Dowers. Together, they built a life centered around family and shared nearly 62 years of marriage. Throughout their years together, Norman and Janet shared a love of adventure, taking many motorcycle trips across the country and making countless memories along the way.
Norman is survived by his beloved wife, Janet Dowers; his sons, Dale (Dana) Dowers and Brian (Kim) Dowers; his grandchildren Abbott (Ashley), Hannah (Luke), and Paitynn; his great-grandchildren, Cooper and Cohen; his sister, Marsha (Bill) Ernst; sister-in-law Carol (McMurtrey) Barr; and many cherished nieces and nephews.
Norman was preceded in death by his father, Henry (Bud) Dowers; his mother Mildred (Hathaway) Dowers; his brothers Henry (Barbara) Dowers Jr., Clifford (Nora) Dowers, Ronald (Charlotte) Dowers; his sisters Edna (Larry) Colson, and Karen Dowers; and brother-in-law Robert (Bob) Barr.
Above all else, Norman was a devoted family man. He was the kind of man who would do anything for the people he loved and was always there when someone needed him. Some of his greatest joy came from simply being surrounded by the people he loved. He was a proud grandfather who rarely missed an opportunity to attend his grandchildren’s events and cheer them on from the sidelines.
Norman was an avid Indiana Hoosiers and NASCAR fan, and spent many hours gardening, bird watching, and wood working in his shop. He also enjoyed grilling, hunting, and family gatherings. Whether it was the Dowers Christmas parties, or simply spending time together sitting on the porch, Norman valued the moments that brought his family close. Norman will be remembered for the devotion to his family, the life and adventures he shared with Janet, and the countless memories he leaves with those who knew and loved him.
