Norman Dean Jenkins Sr. 84 of Westville passed away at 1:24 a.m. Tuesday July 28, 2009 at Provena USMC Logan Campus. He was born on December 3, 1924 in Georgetown, IL the son of Verlin and Mary Biggs Jenkins. He married Evelyn Strako on November 27, 1947 in Westville, IL. She preceded him in death on December 12, 1988. Survivors include: his children, Susan (Rick) Beyers of Westville, Patricia Jenkins of Westville, and Norman (Shelly) Jenkins Jr. of Westville; his grandchildren, Rod (Christine) Beyers of St. Joseph, Megan (Rob) Kelsey of Danville, Sabrina (Tim) Power of Bloomington, IL, Kelsy (Josh) Clark of Georgetown, Ryan (Jen) Beyers of Danville, Aaron Henkelman of Danvers, IL, Nick (Theresa) Henkelman of Bloomington, IL, Corissa Jenkins of Westville and Nathan Jenkins of Westville; great grandchildren, Erin, Andrew, and Kaitlyn Beyers, Avery and Evelyn Kelsey, Garret and Liam Power, and Wade Clark; one brother, Charles Jenkins of Georgetown. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Fred Jenkins, and one sister, Judy Calin. Norman was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during WWII. He was rewarded a Silver Star from the Battle of the Bulge. He retired from Quaker Oats. He was a member of the St. Marys Catholic Church. He was a former member of the Westville American Legion Post 51 and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed carpentry, fishing, gardening, and doing lawn work. His main hobby was his family. A mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday July 30, 2009 at St. Marys Catholic Church. Fr. John Paninski will officiate. Burial will be at Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery in Westville. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday July 29, 2009 at Sunset-Urbas Funeral Chapel in Westville with a rosary at 3:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in his name to St. Marys Catholic Church or St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Church.
