Norman Alfred Edinger, 97, of Danville, passed away at 11:10 a.m. Wednesday, March 29, 2006 at his home. Norman was born on November 24, 1908 in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, the son of David and Emma (Stahl) Edinger. He married Ethel Irene Beck on July 16, 1929 in Pennsylvania. She preceded him in death on November 29, 2001. He is survived by his four sons- Norman S. (Dorothy) Edinger of Danville, Alfred (Grace) Edinger of Toms River, New Jersey, Allen (Debra) Edinger of Champaign, and Larry (Sue) Edinger of New Columbia, Pennsylvania; one daughter- Emma Hauck of Danville; one brother- Guy (Katherine) Edinger of Turbotville, Pennsylvania; four sisters-in-law- Justine Edinger of DeLand, Florida, Laura Edinger- of Mifflinburg, Pennsylvania, Inez Giardino of Danville, Mary Whitmyer of Granite City, Illinois; 14 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Norman was preceded in death by his parents, wife, four brothers, and two sisters. Norman graduated in 1928 from Lewisburg High School in Pennsylvania. Norman served in the Navy in 1945 during WWII. He worked as a farmer, milkman and electrician for Westinghouse in Pennsylvania before moving to Danville in December of 1961. Norman started working for Danville Metal Stamping in 1961 as a production manager and worked there until he retired in 1981. He was a member of Farmers Chapel Church and a member of the Gideons for 35 years. Norman was a former 32 degree Mason member of the Olive Branch Lodge, Shriner, and Grotto member. He was a board member for AARP. Norman enjoyed camping and traveling. He and his wife have visited all the states except Alaska while traveling. He enjoyed spending his time woodworking, fishing, hunting, doing electrical work, and working in his yard. In his later years he enjoyed spending time with his dog Lady. A celebration of the life of Norman Alfred Edinger will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 3, 2006 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, with Rev. Bill Stotts and Rev. Glen Huffman officiating. Visitation will be from 4 - 8 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Entombment will be at Sunset Memorial Park with military rites by the American Legion post #210. Memorials may be made to the Gideons or to Farmers Chapel Church.
