Norma L. Turner

Norma L. (Mast) Turner, 90, went peacefully to her Lord and Savior on November 6, 2022, at 6:41 p.m. Norma was special to many people, and she loved her family and her friends. Norma worked for many years in the school office at North Vermillion High School in Cayuga, IN. She loved being around all the students and was a friend to any student that needed help or just wanted to stop by and talk with her. After retiring from North Vermillion, she worked at Provena Hospital in Danville, IL. She worked in the Registration Department and greeted the patients with care and a smile, calming them as they started their care. Norma finally retired at the age of 70. Other than her family and friends her greatest love was music. Norma had a beautiful voice and sang like an angel. Her love of performing started at a very early age. When Norma was 3, she sang a Shirley Temple staple, the Good Ship Lollipop, at a function where the mayor of Danville was present. Standing on a chair, she sang her song directly to the mayor with a few 3-year-old flirtatious moves. Following, the mayor sent her a sweet necklace as a thank you for her delightful performance. She was the soloist at many weddings and funerals. Norma sang in quartets, one of which included her father. She sang in quartets and groups formed through the churches she attended. One of Normas biggest joys was directing choirs. She directed choirs at McKinley United Methodist Church, Lincoln United Methodist Church and Perrysville United Methodist Church. Her favorite thing was the harmonies from the choirs and making sure that all the choir members ended the final note at the same time. She also loved it when the "kids" all came home from college to sing in the Christmas Cantata. Norma is no doubt already singing in the Heavenly Choir and will one day surely direct it. Norma was married to Lewis H. Turner, deceased, for 67 years. Their reunion must have been joyous. Norma was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Dorothy Mast, her sister and brother-in-law Edna and John Owen and her nephew John L. Owen. She was also preceded in death by her father-in-law and mother-in-law Hubert and Laura Turner, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Clarence and Reva Turner, brother-in-law Russell Stark and sister-in-law Arlene Snyder. Norma is survived by her son and daughter, Steve Turner and Lonnie Turner both of Covington, IN. She is survived by two grandchildren, Amanda (Gabe) Shoaf and Allison (Jeff) Hardison. Norma is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Nathan Shoaf and Zachary Hardison, as well as sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nephews, nieces and cousins. A private service will be held for Norma. Steve Vitaniemi will conduct the service. It will be recorded and later posted for viewing on the Sunset Funeral Home website with her obituary. Donations in Normas name may be made to the National Alliance on Mental Illness. They may be mailed to NAMI, PO Box 49104, Baltimore, MD 21297. Her arrangements were entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Covington, Indiana 420 3rd St. Covington, Indiana 47932.
