Norma J. Smith, 76, of Danville, passed away at 8:40pm on Sunday, November 29, 2009 at the Hoopeston Community Medical Center in Hoopeston, IL. She was born on December 2, 1932, in Kankakee, IL, the daughter of Arthur and Mae (Speight) Goodberlet. Surviving family members include her daughter, Linda (husband, Mac) McAllister of Knoxville, Tenn, two grandchildren, Jason (wife, Heather) Smith of Kankakee, and Joshua Smith of Danville. Her two great-grandchildren, Gage and Abigail Smith, and her brother, Robert (wife, Gloria) Goodberlet of Illinois, also survive Norma. Her parents, daughter, Lois Smith, and her two sisters, Donna Powell, and Shirley Cota, precede Norma in death. Norma graduated from Kankakee High School. She worked as a gift buyer for the former Hardings Drug Store in Danville for 21 years, as well as working in several other shops in the Danville and Rossville area. She also enjoyed floral decorating, wedding planning, and volunteer gift-wrapping. She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Danville, and past President of the ABWA. Per Normas wishes, she will be cremated and their will be a time of remembrance for family and friends on Saturday, December 5, 2009, from 2-5pm at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center located at 3940 N. Vermilion St. in Danville. No services are scheduled. She will be inurned at Kankakee Memorial Gardens in Kankakee, IL on a later date.
