Nora “Nokie” Nokomis Adams, 91, of Danville, IL passed away at 7:55 PM on June 14, 2026 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL. surrounded by her family.
Nora was born on April 6, 1935 the daughter of Forrest and Jennie (Johnson) Allen in Cadiz, KY. She married Menon Adams on October 28, 1953 and he preceded her in death on Dec. 28, 1993.
Survivors include her daughters, Marti (Todd) Hankins of Covington, IN and Maria (Jack) Doan of Danville, IL, as well as 10 grandchildren, Mike (Missy) VanCamp, Chad (Brandi) VanCamp, Tony (Britney) VanCamp, John (Connie) Adams, Misty (Josh) Johnson, Chassity (Tyler Phillips) Russell, Colby Russell, Megan (Byron) Baugh, McKenzie (Tyler Smith) Doan, Madison (Owen Osborne) Doan, 21 great grandchildren, and 10 great-great grandchildren. She had many friends, nieces, and nephews that she loved as her own children like Myra Stark.
Nora is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Menon Adams, one son, Marvin Adams, four sisters and four brothers.
Nora earned her associate’s degree in Theology from the Midwest Baptist Bible College and attended CrossRoads Christian Church. Over the years, she played the bass guitar and sang with a variety of gospel groups including Victory Express, the Harmonettes, Garden Echoes, and the Kentucky Two. Nora was a Democrat Precinct Committeewoman for over 28 years and also volunteered with Vermilion County ESDA and at the hospital in Danville, IL. She was very involved in raising money with various fund raisers for Cancer and Heart. Cruising country roads, going to Amish stores and Coffing Bros Orchard and fishing were her favorite past times. Nora was an avid UK Basketball, University of Illinois and St Louis Cardinals fan. She occasionally threw a dollar in the slots for fun as well.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 19, 2026, at CrossRoads Christian Church in Danville, Illinois, 3613 North Vermilion Street, Danville, Illinois 61832. Mile Clark and Robbie Ketcherside will co-officiate. Burial will be in Stearns Cemetery in Fithian. Visitation will be held from 4-7:00 PM on Thursday, June 18, 2026 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, Illinois 61834.
Memorials may be made in Nora’s memory to Mills Breast Cancer Institute, OSF Cancer Center or a Heart related fundraiser of your choice.
