Neuman C. Auter Jr., 88, of Danville IL., went to be with his lord at 10:35 am on Sunday June 2, 2013 at his home in Danville. He was surrounded by his family. Neuman was born on September 12, 1924, to Neuman Sr. and Eula (Peters) Auter in Covington IN. He married Annabell Jinkins on January 1, 1955 at the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Covington IN. she survives. Other survivors include his sons Larry (Jackie) Auter of Auburn IN. and Robert Auter of Danville; daughters Sharon Kay (Charles) Waggaman and Sue Ann Auter both of Danville; many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one brother Harold "Boo" (Ginny) Auter of Danville and several nieces and nephews. Neuman was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Mary, brother Arther, and an infant brother. A graduate of Danville High Neuman served as a carpenters mate in the U.S. Navy during World War II in Hawaii and Iwo Jima as part of the 62 Sea-Bee's 133 Battalion. Upon returning home he found work at Teepak and retired from there after 33 years. Neuman liked walking to work in the morning and visiting with his coworkers. He also enjoyed working on his farm in Indiana. An active member of the Calvary Baptist Church Neuman volunteered his time going on food pantry trips, visiting the sick, being a part of the Gainmore Class and doing whatever he could to help out. In his spare time Neuman enjoyed working with his hands and over the years made as many as 500 tin men which he numbered, dated and signed on the bottom of their feet before giving away to friends and family. A member of the Danville American Legion Post # 210 Neuman loved spending time with his family and friends and going on vacations. He was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and was of the opinion that all tractors should be red. Neuman's family would like to extend their appreciation to the Calvary Baptist Church for their love, prayers, calls and gifts; with special thanks to Pastor Scott McCurdy and Pastor Curt Darling for their many visits. The family would also like to recognize Tony and Linda Foote, Jackie Kemper, Alfa Care and support team of Carle Hospice as they were a real blessing to the family. A celebration of Neuman's life will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday June 5, 2013 at the Calvary Baptist Church of Danville with Pastor Scott McCurdy and Pastor Joe Humrichous of Calvary Baptist Church officiating and burial at Sunset Memorial Park in Danville IL. A visitation will be held prior to services from 9:00 to 11:00 am on Wednesday June 5, 2013. Military honors will be performed by American Legion Post #210 at the cemetery. Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home in Danville is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made in Neuman's name to the Calvary Baptist Church, Carle Hospice or a charity of the Donor's choice. Condolences may be left at www.sunsetfuneralhome.com
