Nellie Ruth Martin, 85, of Danville, passed away at 6:35 p.m. Tuesday, February 14, 2006 at Vermilion Manor Nursing Home. Nellie was born on April 1, 1920 in Danville, the daughter of Stanley and Ruth (Llewellyn) Talbert Sr. She married Lloyd V. Martin Sr. on January 1, 1941 at the Hooton Church of Christ in Danville. He preceded her in death on October 21, 1981. She is survived be her four sons- Donald Edward (Elaine) Martin Sr. of Danville, Lloyd Virgil (Camilla) Martin of Oakwood, Robert Dale (Susan) Martin of Indianola, and David Wayne (Cynthia) Martin of Cayuga, Indiana; ten grandchildren- Donald Edward Martin Jr. of Danville, Joseph Lee Martin of Danville, Russell (Marilyn) Martin of Whitesville, West Virginia, Sandra Kaye (Gordon) Green of St. Joseph, Erik (Amy) Martin of Catlin, Tamara Martin of New Jersey, Amy Lynn Wright of Arlington, Texas, Robert Lloyd (Jaimee) Martin of Oak Harbor, Washington, Lara (Shawn) Conklin of Oakwood, and David (Nancy) Richards of Danville; 19 great grandchildren; very dear aunt- Erma Richards of Danville; brother-in-law- Robert Songer of Indianola; sister-in-law- Ernestine Talbert of Madison, Tennessee; Very Special Friend- Helen Jurczak; and several nieces and nephews. Nellies parents, husband, two brothers- George Edward Talbert and Stanley Talbert; one sister- Jo Anne Songer preceded her in death. Nellie graduated from Danville High School in 1938. She worked for the PTA hot lunch program at Hooton Grade School from 1953-1962 and then went to the Daniel Grade School from 1967-1972. She was very active in the PTA from 1948-1966. She later worked at Georges Buffet in the early 1980s. She was a member of the Hooton Church of Christ. While at the church, she was involved in the church missionary group as well as in other activities there. Nellie enjoyed her flowers in her yard. She also enjoyed going traveling and camping with her family. She enjoyed reading and eating licorice. Nellies children, grandchildren, and her great "grandchildren were very special to her. A celebration of the life of Nellie Ruth Martin will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 21, 2006 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, with Rev. Allen Hamon officiating. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park. Memorials may be made in Nellies name to the Hooton Church of Christ, Vermilion Manor Nursing Home Foundation or to the donors choice.
