Nellie Mae {Lambert} Brooks, 93, of Georgetown, went to be with the Lord on the morning of March 22, 2011 at home with her family by her side. Nellie was born on March 23, 1917 in Georgetown, the daughter of Erastus and Stella Mae (Martin) Lambert. She was united in marriage to Glen Brooks on December 9, 1937 in Covington, Indiana, by the Rev. Dan Mathis. Glen and Nellie were married for 73 years. Glen will miss her dearly. She will also be missed by: her daughter in-law, JoAnn Brooks of Georgetown; her four daughters, Charlotte (Kirby) Jones of Georgetown, Joan (Dave) Sherrill of Danville, Glenda (Gary) Van Sickle of Kingman, IN, & Mary Mae (Vern) Rohrscheib of Fairmount; her eleven grandchildren, Jeff Brooks, Amy Lutz, Tracie Katavich, Donna Wells, Debbie Sherrill, Jennie Sherrill, Chris Ward, Jimmy Dicken, Lynn Rohrscheib, and Stacey Rohrscheib; her eighteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson and one great-great grandchild on the way; and several nieces and nephews. Nellie was preceded in death by: her parents; one son, Marvin Brooks; and two sisters, Coleta Reid and Alberta Jameson; and four brothers, Dwight, Herbert, Howard and Lloyd Lambert. Nellie was a lifelong farmer in the Georgetown and Catlin areas. She was a member of The First Church of Christ and Truth Seeker Sunday School class in Georgetown. Nellie served on the Georgetown Fire Departments Womens Auxiliary for fifty years. She also volunteered at the Georgetown Agriculture Fair in the Culinary Department for a countless number of years. Nellie was best known for her quilt making. She loved talking on the phone, traveling, gardening and sharing her birthday with her niece, Stella Jo. Most of all she loved spending time with her family. A celebration of Nellies life will be at 10:30 am, Saturday, March 26, 2011, at Sunsets Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home, A Life Celebration Home, in Georgetown. Phil Miller & Steve Rutter will officiate. She will be laid to rest in Pleasant Mound Cemetery, west of Georgetown. Visitation for family and friends will be 4-8 pm, Friday, March 25, 2011, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to the Georgetown Fire Department or the Georgetown Fair.
