Nellie Jane Mclaughlin

Nellie "Nell," Jane McLaughlin, 75, died on June 22, 2018 surrounded by her beloved children. She is preceded in death by her husband, Russell Richard McLaughlin II. From her birth in Macomb, IL on February 23, 1943, to her death on Friday, she nourished people around her with love and laughter. She was born in Macomb, IL to Burdette and Ruth (Reynolds) Hammond and was the oldest of five children. After graduating from high school, Nell attended St. Francis School of Nursing in Peoria, IL. Following her training, she began what would be a long and fulfilling 55 year career as a Registered Nurse. She just retired two short years ago. Nell's natural gift was always serving people which was exemplified through her mentoring of countless nurses. She was constantly sharing her wisdom and experience that she gained over her amazing career. She was extremely conscientious in serving her patients with dignity, respect and true compassion. Her legacy will live on in the nurses she trained and nurtured. Besides her passion for nursing, Nell loved playing golf and spending time with her family. And she could complete every crossword puzzle ever put in front of her. She was a master cook and loved making extravagant meals for her loved ones. Left to honor Nell and remember her love are her two children, Clint (Soraya) McLaughlin and Dawn (Tom) Laznik, four grandchildren, Gage Laznik, Tanner Laznik, Yates McLaughlin and Kate McLaughlin; two sisters, Mary (Jerry) Erlandson, Margie Hammond; and two brothers, Wally (Sharon) Hammond and Alan Hammond; and many nieces and nephews. A celebration of Nell's life will be held from 1-3pm on Saturday, August 4, 2018 at Sunset Funeral Home, 710 N. Neil St., Champaign, IL 61820. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, those who choose may make a donation in her name to the Champaign County Humane Society.
