Terre Haute, Ind. - Nellie A. Norman Coonce, 88, of Terre Haute and formerly of Newport, Indiana, passed away at 7:22 p.m. EDT Saturday, August 3, 2019 at Signature Healthcare in Terre Haute.
She was born April 16, 1931 in Corning, Arkansas the daughter of the late Henry and Reitha (Richardson Cobb.
Nellie first married Tom Norman, Sr., on June 26, 1949. He preceded her in death on September 19, 1993. She later married Bert D. Coonce on September 26, 1998 in Newport, Indiana. He preceded her in death on December 28, 2007.
Survivors include two daughters: Brenda Norman of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Janet (Duane) Monk of Cornelius, North Carolina; one son: Tom Norman, Jr. of Westville, Illinois; eight grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren; two sisters: Delores (J.W. Polk) Crouse of Mattoon, Illinois and Debbie (Bill) Hathaway of Rantoul, Illinois; one brother: Sonny (Rowena) Cobb of Avon, Indiana and brother-in-law: Ed Norman of Newport, Indiana.
Nellie was preceded in death by her sister: Linda King, and brother: George Allen Cobb.
Nellie owned/operated a beauty shop out of her home in Newport for 37 years. She attended the Newport United Methodist Church. She was a 1949 graduate of Hillsdale High School and 1962 graduate of Harold's Academy Beauty School. She enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, crocheting and knitting.
Funeral services: 2 p.m. EDT Thursday, August 8, 2019 at DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana; Burial: Oakland Cemetery in Montezuma, Indiana; Visitation: Noon EDT Thursday, August 8, 2019 until time of services at the funeral home.
