Nancy Thomas,85, of Cayuga, Indiana, born on August 12, 1939, in Stringtown, Indiana, departed this life on June 25, 2025, at Indiana University Hospital Carmel, Indiana, surrounded by her loving family. She was a beloved wife, devoted mother, cherished grandmother, and a respected member of her community.
In her professional life, Nancy served as a benefits administrator at Culver Education Foundation, a private boarding high school, where she dedicated her skills and commitment in support of the educational community. Her warm and approachable nature made her a pleasure to work with and left a positive impact on those around her.
Nancy was a proud member of the Cayuga Christian Church, where she faithfully participated in the life of her congregation. Known for her infectious happiness and unwavering smile, she brought joy to everyone’s lives and was a source of strength for her family and friends.
Her hobbies and interests centered around her family, with whom she spent countless delightful moments. She was an avid quilter creating many beautiful heirloom quilts that will be cherished by her family for years to come. Nancy's love and dedication to her family were evident in every interaction, from cherished family gatherings to quiet moments spent together.
Nancy is survived by her husband, Kenneth Thomas, who she married on February 11, 1956, having spent nearly 69 years together, and their two sons, Douglas (Sandy) Thomas of Culver, Indiana, and Jeffrey (Phyllis) Thomas of Bass Lake, Indiana. She adored her granddaughter, Dana Thomas of Culver, Indiana, and her grandson, Stuart Thomas of Indianapolis, Indiana. Also surviving her are her brothers, James and Russell McLain.
She was preceded in death by her father, Sherman McLain; her mother, Helen (Russell) McLain; her brother, Ronald (Gene) McLain; and her sisters, Myrna Hawkins, Peggy Sutliff, Carol Beam, and Mary Clark.
A graveside service to honor Nancy's life will be held on Thursday July 3, 2025, at Thomas Cemetery in Cayuga, Indiana, beginning at 1:00 PM. The family has entrusted Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center's DeVerter Chapel 215 N. Division Street Cayuga, Indiana, 47928. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
