Nancy Kay Lewis

Nancy Kay Lewis, age 73 of Champaign, passed away Saturday, August 22, 2015 at 8:17 PM at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born December 26, 1941 in Champaign to the late Dale Herbert Hardwick and Dana (nee Patrick) Gulick. She married Harold Lewis on November 13, 1965 in Champaign and later divorced after 31 years of marriage. They remained friends and Harold was very supportive during her illness Surviving are her daughters, Tracy (Suzanne Allbright) Lewis of Champaign and Tricia (Dean Patterson) Lewis of Champaign; grandchildren, William Patterson, Cora Lewis-Patterson, and Claudia Lewis-Patterson; one sister, Nikki Brown of Phoenix, AZ; and many other relatives, friends, and family who will miss her dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents and her stepfather, Marion Gulick. As a young woman Nancy worked as a dental assistant at Dr. Keener's office. She later married and became a mother to her loving children and stayed at home raising and taking care of her family. Nancy enjoyed going to the movies as well as watching movies at home. She also loved getting lost in a good mystery or crime novel. She would also read many celebrity biographies. Nancy loved music, especially Elvis. Above all Nancy loved spending time with her grandchildren. They would come over and have the best time at grandma's house, bouncing on her bed and getting anything they wanted to eat. Grandma always made them their favorite treat. Nancy's sweetness, warmth, and humor will be missed by all who knew her. Per her wishes Nancy was cremated and a Celebration of Nancy's Life will be held Thursday, August 27, 2015 at 7:00 PM at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center Champaign-Urbana Chapel, 710 N. Neil Street. Visitation will be prior to the family sharing Thursday from 5-7 PM. Please bring along your favorite memory or story to share with Nancy's friends and family. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made in Nancy's name to Carle Cancer Center or Carle Hospice Program.
