Myrtle F. Johnson, 87, of Paris, IL, passed away at 11:58pm, Wednesday, October 14, 2009, at Pleasant Meadows Christian Village in Chrisman, IL. She was born on March 7, 1922, in Kankakee, IL, the daughter of Argyle and Nellie (Hawkins) Oakes. She was wed to Melvin Alfred Johnson on October 1, 1949, in Kankakee, IL, until his passing on October 13, 1998. Survivors include: her children, Ginger (Randy) Gonwa of Hillsdale, IN, Alan (Joyce) Johnson of Ridge Farm, IL, & Debbie (Steve) Banta of Green Bay, WI; her grandchildren, Vicki Johnson of Ridge Farm, IL, Mitch Gonwa of Indianapolis, IN, & Scott Gonwa of Terre Haute, IN; as well as, her beloved nephew, Richard Hopper of Las Vegas, whom she shared many laughs with. She was preceded in death by: her parents; her grandson, Christopher Johnson; her brother, Vernon Oakes; her sisters, Hazel Hopper & Elmo Eickman; and her nephew, Dale Hopper. Myrtle was a member of the Kankakee Baptist Church. She loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed sewing and making her daughters clothing. She also loved flowers, canning fruits & vegetables. Myrtle enjoyed going camping and traveling. Her family would like extend a special thank-you to Pleasant Meadows Christian Village for the great care the staff provided to Myrtle.
