Myron E. Bates, 94, passed away on September 11, 2019 at OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center in Danville, Illinois.

He was born on February 28, 1925 in Gentryville, Indiana to Jolly Bates and Etta (Dunn) Bates. Both preceded him in death. He is also preceded in death by his two brothers, Ivan M. Bates and Wyman B. "Buddy" Bates.

He was united in marriage to Dory Bates on May 16, 2014. She will miss him dearly.

Myron attended school in Richland, Indiana where he won several medals as a pole-vaulter. In 1943 he joined the United States Army where he served with the 29th Division in World War II. He served on D-Day in Normandy, France and saved many lives as a field medic.

He enjoyed hunting, carpentry, music and dancing. He made many friends while residing at the Wolford apartments for over 16 years. He enjoyed caring for a special friend, Katherine Schultz for over 30 years. Most recently he enjoyed the love and companionship of his wife. He enjoyed spending time with her family for parties and get-togethers. Myron and Dory explored many avenues together to have a happy life.

He attended a Baptist church in Booneville, Indiana where he was baptized.

Private family services will be held at a later date. He will be interred at the United States National Cemetery in Danville, Illinois with full military honors.
