Morris Mick William Heffern Jr., 61, of Danville, passed away at 8:15 p.m. on Wednesday, June 1, 2005 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. He was born on October 25, 1943 in Danville, the son of Morris William and Kathryn (Bonnett) Heffern Sr. He married Sandra Sandy Dawes on December 20, 1969 in Potomac, Illinois. She survives. He is also survived by 4 nieces- Brenda (John) Wiesemann of New Haven, Indiana, Angie (Anthony) Edwards of Butte, Montana, Amber (Brian) Smith of Bismarck, Illinois, and Sonna (Dennis) Billings of Danville; 4 nephews- Ron (Patty) Shelato of West Minster, Colorado, Brian (Diane) Moews of Ogden, Illinois, Brad (Barb) Moews of Danville, and Chuck (Melanie) Shelato of Bement, Illinois; 2 brothers-in-law- Wayne (Terri) Dawes of Catlin,, Illinois and Gene Moews of Bismarck, Illinois; 1 sister-in-law- Linda Dawes of Danville; 1 cousin- Harold (Ruth) Heffern of Danville; several great nieces and nephews; and one very special dog, Sassy. Mick was known to many people as Uncle Mick. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 sister- Sharon Shelato and 1 sister-in-law- Sharon Moews. Mick graduated from Henning High School in 1961. After high school Mick joined the U.S. Army and served from 1963-1966. He worked at Hyster/NACCO as a heavy equipment operator until retiring in 1999. After his retirement, Mick drove a school bus for Oakwood School district unit #76. He was a member of Operators Engineers Local 841. He was a member of Masonic Anchor Lodge 980 and the Scottish Rites. He was a 32 degree Mason. He was a member of Lone Oak Church. He was a past volunteer firefighter for Kickapoo Fire Protection District. He was also a past member of the Oakwood Rescue Squad. Mick loved to go camping, trail riding, and team roping. He also loved to sing karaoke. Mick loved to spend time with all his buddies and friends at the Oakwood Truck Stop in the mornings after his bus route. His real true love was his wife and his horses. He was a beloved husband and uncle.
