John "Morrie" Gallagher, 100, passed away Wednesday (Sept. 11, 2024) at home, with his loving and devoted wife by his side.
According to Morrie's wishes, there will be a private family service. Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center 1102 Churchill Rd. in Mahomet will be assisting with arrangements.
Morrie was born on August 7,1924, in Philo, the son of John and Anna (O'Neill) Gallagher. He and his family moved to rural Sadorus at an early age, and he lived the remainder of his life there. He married Arrahwanna Stewart in 1959. She survives.
Also surviving are his brother-in-law Junior (Rozella) Stewart, sister-in-law Ruth Hieser, and many nieces and nephews who respectfully referred to him as "Uncle Morrie."
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Lyle Gallagher, and his sister Eileen Welch.
He was a lifelong member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, Seymour.
Morrie was a hard-working, kind, generous, and humble man. Next to his family, farming was his greatest love. He worked hard all of his life. He was always one of the first to help whenever there was a need, whether it was helping a neighbor who was unable to plant or harvest his crops, or to clean up his community after a tornado. His kindness and generosity touched so many lives.
The family would like to thank the nurses and CNA who lovingly took care of Morrie the past two years - Jillian, Stephanie, and Kelly.
Please make any memorial contributions to the charity of your choice.
