Monty Read

Monty Read, 62, of Danville passed away on Thursday, July 6, 2017 in the comfort of his home in Indian Springs, Danville, IL surrounded by loved ones. He was born on March 22, 1955 the son of Lowell and Dora (Moulton) Read in Danville, IL. He is preceded in death by his father. Survivors include his mother, Dora Read (Ed) Jameson, sister, Susan (Rusty) Golden, two daughters, Angelia Read and Jessica Brito, as well as a niece, Jenna Golden. Monty was a 1973 graduate of Oakwood High School. He shared many pastimes with his father such as co-ownership of L&M Lawn Mower Shop in Danville and bodybuilding at the Danville YMCA. Monty was a proud father who raised his two daughters on his own. He insisted that his daughters used their academics as a foundation to make their dreams reality. Both of his daughters graduated from Bismarck-Henning High School. Jessica graduated college in Wisconsin with Bachelor of Arts in English. Angelia is currently working toward a Bachelor of Science in Equine Sciences in Kentucky. His greatest lessons to them were honesty, hard work, and the importance of making others smile. Monty was a selfless man who enjoyed life's simplicity. He found great joy in making people laugh. He spent many of his best mornings at home with his "sweet side," significant other, Kate Barton, drinking coffee, gazing over Windfall Lake. He loved the great outdoors and spent time hiking, camping, and fishing in the Boundary Waters of Minnesota. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and was thrilled to see the 2016 World Champions. A Celebration of Monty's life will be held at 6:00pm, Saturday, July 8, 2017, at Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion St, Danville. Visitation will be 4pm - 6pm on Saturday prior to his service at the funeral home. As per his wishes, he will be cremated.
