Mona J. Morson

Newport, Ind. - Mona J. Morson, 82, of Newport, went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at 5:46 p.m. at Terre Haute Regional Hospital.

She was born May 23, 1935 in Riverside, Indiana, the daughter of the late Alton and Marion "Pib" (Alenduff) Richey.

She first married married Wayne Hayman. She later married Bert A. Morson, Jr. on December 25, 1976 in Covington, Indiana. He survives.

Other survivors include her children: Bridget "Hayman" (Mickie) Peterson of Danville, Illinois; Jeff (Cindy) Hayman of Covington, Indiana; Leslie "Hayman" (Greg) Weir of Cayuga, Indiana; Cari "Hayman" Birkle (Chuck Enos) of Tilton, Illinois; Tony (Lanea) Morson of Newport, Indiana and Jimmy (Tammy) Morson of San Diego, California; 17 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; sister, Judy Martin of Newtown, Indiana; 3 brother/sisters-in-law; nephew, Gary Martin of Newtown, Indiana, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mona was preceded in death by her niece, Brenda Comb; 1 sister-in-law and 2 brother-in-laws.

Mona formerly owned and operated the Lonestar Bar in Newport. She formerly worked as a security guard at the former Newport Army Ammunition Plant. Mona was of Christian faith. She was a 1953 graduate of Attica High School. She was known as a big animal lover in Newport. She enjoyed gardening, bowling, golfing and most of all spending time with her family.

Funeral services: 1 p.m. EST Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana; Officiating: Pastor Shaun Farley; Burial: Salem Cemetery east of Attica, Indiana; Visitation: 11 a.m. EST Tuesday, February 27, 2018 until time of services at the funeral home.
