Newport, Ind. -- Minnie Marie Shell, 97, formerly of Newport and a resident at the Vermillion Convalescent Center in Clinton, Indiana passed away at 8:35 a.m. EDT Friday, August 22, 2008 at the Vermillion Convalescent Center. She was born April 5, 1911 near Newport, Indiana, the daughter of the late Wesley and Mary Ellen Wright Burke. She married Edmund B. (Jack) Shell on October 13, 1933 in Quaker, Indiana. He preceded her in death on July 3, 1987. Survivors: one son, Marvin Joe(Martha)Shell of Clinton, Indiana; two daughters, Wilma McClellan of Murfreesboro, Tennessee and Alma(Bob)Market of Rockville, Indiana; nine grandchildren; two step grandsons; eleven great grandchildren; three step great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was was preceded in death by her infant son; one sister, Fern Foreman and two brothers, Wright Burke and Forrest Burke. Marie was a homemaker. She was a 1929 graduate of Newport High School. Marie was a former 4-H Leader and a lifelong member of the Newport Friends Church and Farm Bureau. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening, cooking, canning, mushrooming, fishing and traveling. She and her late husband Jack would winter in florida during their retirement years. Funeral services: 2 p.m. EDT Monday, August 25, 2008 at DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana; Officiating: Rev. Jack Barnard; Burial: Thomas Cemetery in Newport, Indiana; Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. EDT Sunday, August 24, 2008 at the funeral home.
