Milton Harold Reynolds, age 87, completed his earthly journey at 1:05 a.m. Friday, October 3, 2008 at Vermilion Manor Nursing Home. He was born February 19, 1921 in a home near Oakwood, Illinois, the youngest son to the late Harry E. and Martha (Eisenhower) Reynolds. He attended Danville Public Schools. Milton served as a switchboard operator in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon, Victory Medal and Army of Occupation Medal-Japan. He was married on June 25, 1944 in Danville, Illinois to Mary Ellen Spickard, his wife of 64 years. Mr. Reynolds worked for NACCO (formerly Hyster Company) as a tool cutter/grinder and retired in May 1986. Milton had attended the United Church of Tilton. He was a Red Vest Volunteer for Provena United Samaritans Medical Center in Danville, Illinois for ten years. He delighted in pushing out the mothers and their new babies including some of his own great-grandchildren. He also volunteered at the Veterans Administration Medical Center. He was a member of Golden K, AARP and a lifetime member of VFW Post 728. Milton is survived by his wife Mary and two daughters; Sharon (Russell) Neild of Tilton, Illinois and Marilyn (Robert) Carpenter of Perrysville, Indiana; three grandchildren Tia (Randy) Phillips of Danville, Illinois, Lisa (Carpenter) Barker of Tilton, Illinois and John (Shanna Voorhees) Carpenter of Argenta, Illinois; eight great-grandchildren- Ashlea Robbins, Michelle and Michael Phillips, Sidney and Logan Barker, Joshua, Shelby and Caden Carpenter. He is further survived by nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three sisters- Pearl Neverdousky, Vina Mae Clarke and an infant sister; three brothers- Oscar Paul, Melvin Blaine and Walter Ernest. Milton and Mary moved into their home that they built together in 1950. He loved digging potatoes in his garden each summer and was always puttering in the garage fixing something. In his later years he enjoyed being with his great grandchildren, especially helping them find their eggs at the annual family Easter egg hunt. Milton was always a gentleman and had a smile and a handshake for everyone. He lived by the golden rule. Funeral services for Milton H. Reynolds will be held on Tuesday, October 7, 2008 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, with Drew Mentzer officiating. Burial will be immediately following the service at Sunset Memorial Park, with military rites conducted by American Legion Post #210. Family and friends are invited to visit at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center 3940 North Vermilion Street, Danville, Illinois on Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Memorials may be sent to Second Church of Christ.
