Mildred Lou (Delva) Yagich passed away at the age of 98 on Wednesday, July 23, 2025. Millie was born March 13, 1927 to Henry and Lillian (Rippon) Delva near Westville, IL. She grew up in Westville, IL with 3 brothers, Henry, Robert, and William. All of her brothers and parents preceded her in death. She never liked the name Mildred and her brothers couldn’t even say it, so they called her Babe.

Millie married Roy Hennis of Homer, IL, they were blessed with three daughters: Janni Tarver, Kathy Bushley, and Teresa Ashmore. Roy died in a motorcycle accident in 1952.

She married Vinnie The Book Yagich in 1968. He preceded her in death in 1999.

She worked at collegiate Cap and Gown in Champaign, IL for many years. She also worked Civil Service at both Hickam AFB in Honolulu, HI and Chanute AFB in Rantoul, IL in the finance department. She retired from Civil Service around the time Chanute closed. She also volunteered her time at the Peace Meals in Rantoul.

She was the proud grandmother of: James Vermillion (Peggy), Steven Vermillion (Reenie), Tracie Downs (Eric), Jay Ashmore (Vic), Shelbie McClure (Dave), Kelli Kenyon (Jeff), Jodi Eisenmann (Derric), Luke Vermillion (Jenna) And also the great grandmother of 20 and the great great grandmother of 10.

Throughout her life, Millie found joy in spending time with her family. In her younger years she enjoyed dancing, working on puzzles, and cheering for the Chicago Cubs and Bulls. She was also an avid fan of Elvis Presley. 

A graveside service celebrating Mildred’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at Maplewood Cemetery in Rantoul. Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center’s Lux Chapel 1551 E. Gove Ave., Rantoul, IL 61866, is honored to be assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
