Mildred F. Simon, 90, of Danville, passed away at 8:25 p.m. Thursday, September 10, 2009 at North Logan Healthcare in Danville. Mildred was born on April 18, 1919 in Villa Grove, Illinois, the daughter of Robert and Georgia (Cox) McCollom. She married Max Simon on August 13, 1976 in Danville, Illinois. He preceded her in death in 2008. She previously married Clarence Rogers in 1935 in Tuscola, Illinois. He preceded her in death in 1942. She is survived by her three daughters- Judith A. Stevens of Danville, Claresse Hobough of Fairhope, Alabama and Linda Carrington of Danville; one step-son- Andy (Judy) Simon of Wheaton, Illinois; one step-daughter- Barbara (Gary) Shore of Champaign; one brother- James (Wilma) McCollom of Dallas, Texas; one sister- Georgia Smith of Louisville, Kentucky; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, one son- Gerald Rogers; four brothers and three sisters. Mildred attended Villa Grove High School. She worked at Meis Brothers Department Store in Danville and at St. Elizabeths Hospital, working in the dietary, for several years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Champaign at Savoy. Mildred was very active in the church. She enjoyed reading, ceramics and fixing family dinners. A Celebration of the Life of Mildred F. Simon will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, with Rev. Dr. Randy Gauger officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Danville National Cemetery following the service.
