Middleton J. Brookshier, Jr.

Cayuga, Ind. -- Middleton J. Brookshier, Jr., 86, of Cayuga, Indiana, passed away at 3:15 a.m. EDT Friday, September 30, 2011 at the Vermillion Convalescent Center in Clinton, Indiana. He was born September 30, 1925 in Georgetown, Illinois, the son of the late Middleton J. and Opal Hughes Brookshier, Sr. He first married Garnet M. Barton on August 9, 1946 in Danville, Illinois. She preceded him in death on October 19, 1998. He later married Esther Solis on December 6, 1999 in Newport, Indiana. She survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Cheryl Pichon of Danville, Illinois and Melinda Hughes of Hillsdale, Indiana; one son, Phillip(Cathy)Brookshier of Indianola, Illinois; four grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Brookshier. Middleton was a retired supervisor for the West Lebanon Sewer and Water Department. He was a veteran of W.W. II serving with the merchant marines. Middleton attended the Eugene United Methodist Church, was a member of the Cayuga American Legion Post #263 and was a 1944 graduate of Georgetown High School. Funeral services: 2 p.m. EDT Monday, October 3, 2011 at DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana; Officiating: Rev. Jon Overbey; Burial: Eugene Cemetery in Eugene, Indiana with graveside military rites by the Cayuga American Legion Post #263; Visitation: 1 p.m. EDT Monday, October 3, 2011 until time of services at the funeral home.
