Michael Wayne Pickering

Michael Wayne “Pick” Pickering, 59 of Danville, went to be with the lord on Friday, October 4, 2013 at 4:15 p.m. at University Medical Center in Indianapolis. He was born on October 15, 1953 in Danville, IL, the son of Frank and Anna “Vi” Amos Pickering. He married Susan Goldsbery on August 13, 1977. He is survived by his wife and three daughters; Angelia (Dusty) Bowling, Bobbi Jo Kovacic, Jennifer (Brock) Slavik, seven grandsons; Garrett Johnson, Cooper Bowling, Dalton Kovacic, Owen and Cole Crawley, Evan and Drew Slavik. Three sisters; Barbara (Jack) Stewart, Patricia (Arch) Goin, Margaret (George) Scarlett; two brothers; Charles (Gladys) Pickering, John (Sherry Pickering and many special nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Helen “Tudy” Green and one brother Robert Pickering and one grandson Laine Kovacic. Michael attended Danville schools and began work at Robin Tech until there closing, he then worked for the city of Danville for over thirty five years before retiring in February 2009. After retirement he became a dedicated member of the “Old Cronies coffee club at Burger King which was the highlight of his day. He was an avid Chicago Cubs, Bears and Illini fan. He loved spending time outdoors fishing and working in the yard . Mike was a member of Second Church of Christ and was caring to the Lord. He was a loving husband, dad and grandfather. A celebration of life funeral service for Michael will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday October 9, 2013 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center. Visitation for family and friends will be 4-8p.m. Tuesday October 8, 2013 at the funeral home. Officiating will be Drew Mentzer. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
