Michael Ray Daugherty, 61, of Perrysville, IN, formerly of Fithian, IL went to be with the Lord at 4:10 p.m., January 10, 2009 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana, IL as a result of an automobile accident. Mike was born on March 20, 1947 in Danville, the son of Hugh Alva and Cora Belle Daugherty. He married Patricia Jean McBride on March 22, 1969. She passed away February 16, 2007. They are survived by: a son, Sean (Kelli) Daugherty; and grandchildren, Ryan, Kayla, and Jordan of Tolono, IL; and a daughter Shannon (Brian) Crow; and grandchildren, Shelby and Travis of Potomac, IL. He later married Jeannie Chapman on August 25, 2007. She survives along with her children, Dan (Julie) Chapman & Darin (Amanda) Chapman; and grandchildren, Christian and Dakoda; and Brian (Jane-Ann) Chapman; and grandchildren, Jada and Brock. He is also survived by a brother, Ronald (Sherry) Daugherty of Westville. He was drafted by the US Army in 1965. He later worked as a maintenance man and a journeymans millwright at Escos and Berkeley-Davis in Danville. He attended Danville Area Community College from 1985-1987 where he earned a degree in landscape horticulture. He was very proud of the fact that he was valedictorian of his graduating class at DACC, despite having dropped out of high school and later earning his GED. He then started his own business, Dreamscapes Landscaping. In 2003, he became a maintenance supervisor for Main Street Bank and Trust until he retired in 2007. Mike loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing, restoring old cars, building motors, and riding motorcycles. He and his wife, Jeannie, pursued these hobbies that he loved throughout his retirement. Funeral services will be held Friday January 16, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at Sunsets Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home. Pastor Larry Stoops will officiate. Burial will be at Sandusky Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Thursday January 15, 2009 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Perrysville or Gessie United Methodist Church or to the American Cancer Society. Mike will be extremely missed by his family, friends, his loving wife, and of course his faithful companion, Buddy.
